Gite accommodation in the Limousin

Travel Options

Below is a small selection of travel options; the information contained herein is for guidance only, and you must verify the current situation at the time of arranging your travel.

Guests are responsible for making their own travel arrangements.

We give some information below but of course ferry and flight schedules do vary depending on the season.

Ferry Travel

If you would like to drive, or perhaps you want to come to France for two weeks and stay in two different areas, then there are numerous options where ferry crossings are concerned. Routes can change at any time, so please verify the information yourself.

With the exception of Calais and Cherbourg (around 7 ½ hours), the following routes take between 5 ½ and 6 ½ hours driving time from the arrival port in France to our location. We have found that the times given on route-maps can be over-generous, and, depending on the prevailing traffic conditions, you can often arrive an hour or so earlier than the time given.

Brittany Ferries
Portsmouth to Caen
Portsmouth to St Malo
Portsmouth to Cherbourg

P&O Ferries
Dover to Calais

Condor Ferries
Poole to St Malo
Weymouth to St Malo

Sea France

A couple of sites which may be of interest for comparing ferry services and prices are Ferry Savers and

Train

In our view, Eurotunnel (or Eurostar for those who may consider travelling without a vehicle, and picking up car hire more locally) are easy and pleasant ways to travel.

Flying

Our closest airport is Limoges, which is an approximate 35 minutes (very easy!) drive from us.  Car hire is available from the airport.

Air France, Ryanair and Flybe airlines fly to Limoges from a number of European cities and UK regional airports (currently Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford, Liverpool, London-Stansted).

British Airways fly from May to September, London Gatwick to Limoges, an excellent new addition to our local transport network.

Brive airport, an approximate 1 hour, 15 minute car journey has direct flights from London City Airport via the carrier City Jet.

Flybe, Ryanair and Jet2, also fly into Bergerac airport, which is an approximate 1 hour, 45 minutes car journey.

Please contact the airlines direct for further information.

Stop Over or Additional Nights Accommodation

For those guests who require a stop-over location, or additional days accommodation, we can recommend a very nice Chambre d'hote, la Maison Rouge Volets, in the small town of Excideuil sur Vienne.
